Proflight Simulator Review

Proflight Simulator is an increasingly popular aircraft emulation game. The point of the game is to (as closely as possible) give you a realistic feeling of flying an airplane. But wait,

The Proflight Simulator Vendors Try to up-sell you!

That means they will try and sell the software to you for an expensive price, even though a cheaper price is available! We will look into that more a bit later (want to read about it now? Check out the Scam Secret). Before we get started with my in-depth review, there’s a few things you should know:

        • Proflight Simulator is a completely digital game. That means you are paying for a download, not a CD being shipped to your house. This can be both good and bad, as you will need a credit card or paypal account to buy the product. On the other hand, the installation is instant, you don’t have to wait for the game to arrive in the mail (and no shipping cost).

        • The internet is full of false information. With online products, you can get scammed into paying a much higher price than is needed. Also, you should never trust one person alone on a review for any online product, and that is why I have personally contacted over 30 individuals to give their input (not all will be seen) about this product.

        • I served as a pilot in the Air Force and have worked as a pilot for United Airlines for the rest of my career. Flying is my thing. I own 7 different flight simulators (including the one I am reviewing now, of course) and will do my best to give you an honest opinion.

Let’s get started. I will be reviewing four major components of the software: Graphics, Gameplay, Scenery, and Realistic features. At the end of the review, I am going to give you an amazing behind-the-scenes secret that explains exactly why this product is a scam.

Graphics:

You may or may not have seen the screenshots below affiliated with the simulator. All of the pictures below are fake, the graphics in the game do not depict the supreme quality shown below. However, below are some real screenshots of the graphics: Are these graphics terrible? No! Actually they are quite good for a flight simulator. Lets compare a few other emulators on the market: As you can see, Proflight Simulator definitely competes with other leading emulators (in my opinion, it is the absolute best). But remember, Don’t trust a review from one person! Let’s take a look at what others have to say:

Vic Wallace – California (USA)

“In my opinion, Proflight is somewhat tied in terms of graphics against other competitors. Flight Simulator X has nearly the same (if not better) graphics. Other features however, make Proflight easily outrank its competitors (you aren’t going to find 120 aircraft in any other game!)….Pretty cool game overall.”

Jayden Harris – Berkshire (UK)

“Hey, I got your email and I would be happy to give my review on the “graphics of PFS.”

I think they are outstanding! Beautiful scenery, realistic buildings, and real world cities! The best part is the cockpit. The instruments look incredibly close to the real thing.”

Ethan White – Oregon (USA)

“About two minutes after buying Proflight Simulator, I thought I had been scammed. The graphics were just a little too…. “corny.” But that was my first flight emulator, and after trying a few others I realized PFS is really the best it gets. You have to explore the game a lot and get used to it before you can fully appreciate it. Now me and my 18 year old son play the thing everyday. “

Final remarks: I think the three reviews above sum things up pretty well. Flight Simulators are giant programs. They run on complex platforms and require thousands of hours to create. Near-real graphics are impossible to achieve without hurting the gameplay (causing lag), but Proflight Simulator is about the best you will get!

Gameplay:

Let’s start up by clearing some myths you have heard about game features:

Cool features you will find in the game::

  • Over 120 aircraft to fly around, (124 to be exact).
  • Real world locations (the sim uses the Google Maps platform).
  • Weather control (very handy when using a simulator to train a future pilot).
  • 20,000 airports.
  • Near-perfect cockpit instruments (definitely the most realistic of the whole game. The instruments are accurate to the aircraft model, and they work just as well!).
  • Time skip (if you don’t want to wait 10 hours for your plane to go over the pacific while you are flying to England, this can be put to great use!).
  • Analysis recording (so you can actually see if you are getting better at flying).
  • Lag free! Although this might change depending on your computer, I have never experienced lag while flying. Lagging is the biggest upset an emulator can have, it completely takes away the realistic feel.

Features you will not find in the game (contrary to what you might have heard):

  • Airplane designer mode. Programming geeks are working hard to make new models available for users to fly. But there is not actual in-game plane builder feature.
  • Space flight. I don’t even know how this myth started, but you don’t ever fly into space. This is a flight simulator, not NASA beta testing.
  • Water landings. Unfortunately, you can’t land on rivers or lakes. You can land on cruise ships though!

Let’s see what others have said about the gameplay:

John Miller – Arizona (USA)

“If I had to say one thing about playing Proflight Simulator it would be this: Get a joystick. Playing with your keyboard is lame, dull, and unrealistic compared to that awesome joystick.”

Mitchell Lee – Oregon (USA)

“I never really liked Proflight Simulator. In fact, I never really enjoyed any simulators. They just aren’t for me. I prefer actual flying in the seat of an airplane as opposed to sitting at my computer desk.

On a positive note, between the two flight emulators I had (PFS and FSX), gameplay in PFS is easily 10x better! FSX lagged on my old computer.”

Stanley Walker – Florida (USA)

“I cannot even describe my excitement when I pushed the throttle into gear and my plane jerked forward into life. This was cool!”

Scenery:

A big factor when comparing these types of games is the scenery you can see. In a sense, scenery is just a sub-category of gameplay, so I won’t be spending too much time here.

Basically, any popular landscape views you know of in real life, will show up on the game. Now, does that mean you can fly over and pin-point your own house? Probably not. But more popular geographic and manmade features are available such as:

Man-made Wonders Geographic Locations
      Pyramids of Egypt
      Taj Mahal
      Forbidden City
      Great Wall of China
      Karnak Temple
      The Acropolis
      Dubai
    Three Gorges Dam

      Grand Canyon
      The Great Barrier Reef
      Mt. Everest
The Harbor at Rio de Janeiro
    Paricutin Volcano

I personally confirmed that all these are there (I flew over them). This is just a tiny list out of thousands of locations! However, the regular purchase only has a small area to fly around. You have to pay a little extra to fly around the world. Observe the picture below carefully:

Basically, if you are looking to buy a simulator to practice pilot skills, stick with the basic install. In fact, even if you are interested in the scenery, do the basic install first. Test the simulator out, and later if you want to upgrade you have that available.

I did not email any users asking for reviews on specifically scenery, but remember I have several general review articles at the end of this page.

Realistic Features:

Proflight Simulator has numerous abilities that make your experience more realistic. These help separate PFS from its competitors. Lets take a look at them:

  • Multiple screen display. This is for the real pilot junkies. Basically this allows you to have one screen showing your cockpit display; while the other shows the scenery through the front window (people usually use a projector for this).
  • Air-to-air refueling. With a few aircraft model you can go through this cool procedure. This can also be done on multiplayer mode. Pretty cool!
  • Aircraft carriers. These things are fun to land and take off of. They have both cruiser ships and massive air balloon ports.
  • Instruments. The instruments in Proflight Simulator are definitely the coolest part of the whole thing. They are superbly realistic. Istruments that lag in real life, lag correctly on the sim, gyro drift perfectly correct, and even magnetic compass is subject to aircraft body forces. Even system failures are realistically recreated.
  • Auto-pilot. This is an awesome feature. But, just like real life, it fails occasionally so you still have to keep an eye on your plane.

Watch the video below, it really shows off the realistic environmental effects (pay attention to the clouds). This is actual gameplay footage.

As you can see, realistic feeling is something Proflight Simulator has mastered. Let’s see what others have to say about it:

Luis Allen- Wisconsin (USA)

“Proflight Simulator claims to be the “Most realistic flight sim ever.” I would say that I have to agree with that claim:).”

Nick Hill- Alberta (Canada)

“It’s definitely more realistic than Flight Simulator X, which, in my opinion, is the only other simulator that’s even in the competition with Proflight.

The one thing I can’t stand about FSX is how it always has that one second lag where it loads the map down beneath you. Proflight doesn’t do that.”

Andy Turner- Tennessee (USA)

“I am a student pilot, and our training station uses Proflight. I am not saying that means anything special, but our professors and trainers want the closest to reality as possible, right?”

That’s it for realistic features, up next is the nice, juicy part of the review.

The SCAM Secret

Alright I’ll admit it, I have given this product a pretty positive review. So the big question is, why do I call it a scam?

Let me tell you my story.

I bought the flight simulator at the beginning of this year in January. It seemed like a liable simulator that I would love to contribute some time to. Without doing much research, I pulled out my credit card and made an order.

Well as you can see, I was pretty pleased with the game, at first. I was having a lot of fun flying my aircraft around, so I decided to share the fun and show the simulator to a friend. I sent him a short email with a link to the product page.

Unlike me, my (smart) friend decided to do a little research before putting any money down. He has always been skeptical about buying digital software, or just shopping in general on the internet.

His findings stunned me….

What he found was a handy little JPEG picture on the web, and it claimed to contain a coupon link to Proflight Simulator. The surprise? It actually worked. My jaw dropped when he told me the price he paid as compared to what I did.

I was pretty mad. I kept asking “Are you sure that was free? What surveys did you have to fill out? Can a coupon be that easy?” And he kept assuring me that yes, all you have to do is click on it and an amazing discount activates.

I was quick to then label this game a scam, nobody wants to pay more money than they need to. YOU are not going to be one of those people that ends up scammed like me.

Why? Because I have personally went through the work of cloning the HTML of that coupon directly into this article (you can thank me later). That’s right, all you have to do is click on the coupon below and watch it work.

Final Reviews

Last, I want to share more Proflight Simulator Reviews from various buyers of the product. Enjoy!

Gerard Evans- Mali (North Africa)

“Flight simulators are something I believe to be caught in the past. They should be much more modern and realistic than they are.

I have tried out a couple simulators. Proflight was the best, but I ended up asking for a refund. Emulators just don’t do it for me.

When you ask for a refund, be BOLD and firm so you don’t end up with thirty “Are you SUREE?” emails.”

Curt Campbell- Kansas (USA)

“I was unsure whether or not I wanted to buy the simulator, I’m not a huge fan of online shopping.

Then I decided, what the heck, there’s a 60-day money back guarantee, if I don’t like it I’ll just get a refund.

So I ended up buying it, and eventually, I wanted my money back. It wasn’t really for me. I requested a refund and they were good about returning my payment.”

Brett Stewart- Nunavut (Canada)

“I was a complete newbie at flying until I bought Proflight Simulator. That game made we want to take the hobby to a whole new level. Before I knew it I had an expensive joystick and a dual monitor for a realistic experience.

Whether you are a pilot junkie or just a curious hobby-seeker, Proflight Simulator is amazing!”

Pablo Cook- Tampico (Mexico)

“SO MUCH BETTER THAN MICROSOFT’S FLIGHT SIMULATOR X. Just trust me on this one! Sharp graphics and insanely realistic instruments are something you will only find with PFS. I guarantee it!”

Zachery Collins- Hamburg (Denmark)

“Someone told me this simulator was basically the same as Flight Gear. I tried it to see for myself, and that statement is NOT true! It has tons of features you won’t find in any other simulator.

Besides, if you think it’s the same as another simulator, you can just ask for a refund.”

Andrew Reed- Leeds (UK)

“I don’t think the graphics are all that great. At least the game doesn’t lag though.

In all honesty, I don’t use the game that much. It’s not bad enough for me to ask for a refund, but it’s not like WOW either. ”

Edwin Murphey- Vermont (USA)

“The graphics aren’t realistic at all. I wanted a refund two hours after buying the game.”

Duane Gray- Maryland (USA)

“Best thing about this game: The environmental stuff. Clouds, wind, snow, rain….ALL of it. Just adds a great sense of reality.”

Johnathan Wood- Ohio (USA)

“Hey thanks for your email! I would love to give my review…
I have been very surprised by the negative feedback others have said about the game. The game is stupendous! You must keep in mind that an unsatisfied user is much more likely to go back and post a review than a happy one.

C’mon folks, there IS a satisfaction guarantee. Worse case scenario, you don’t like the game so you get your money back. Done deal.”

Keith Torres- Oklahoma (USA)

“People dissing the graphics in Proflight Simulator have NO idea what they are talking about. The graphics are amazing. Easily the best part of the game.”

Zane Powell- British Columbia (Canada)

“I have been pretty happy with the software. Me and my son bought it twice on two different computers so we could do multiplayer mode with each other. Two thumbs-up for Proflight Simulator!”

Marcus Hughes- California (USA)

“Explore Explore EXPLOREEE. I thought the game was a piece of junk until I actually tried everything out.

Don’t judge a book by its cover, and don’t judge a game on your first 5 minutes of playing it!”

Thanks so much for reading both my review and the reviews of others! I hope you found this information useful. Remember to use the coupon below if you plan on purchasing Proflight Simulator. Good luck!
